[Exclusive Interview] Hanshin Tigers Player Seiya Kinami
The "Training" Behind the Golden Glove Award and the Journey to Find the "Ideal Wear"
Off-season training: "Plain and pushing to the limit," resulting in sore muscles everywhere.
──What kind of training did you do during the off-season?
Kinami:
This time, I focused particularly on basic lower body training. I personally value the "connection from the lower body" greatly in both fielding and hitting, so I relentlessly repeated running, conditioning, and intricate footwork. Honestly, I was sore every day (laughs).
──So you really pushed yourself.
Kinami:
Yes. Trainer Okumura and I were doing endless basic and tough routines, and it was really hard... I called it "sadistic training" (laughs). But because of that accumulation, I feel like I'm able to move well on the field now.
"Wear it and you know it" - Performance wear that supports "sensory consistency"
──How did you feel about wearing our undershirt during training and play?
Kinami:
First of all, the fit the moment I put it on was very good. It's loose around the torso, but tight on the arms. The balance is exquisite, and I don't feel constricted at all.
During training, even the slightest discomfort can affect movement, but this shirt doesn't have that at all. In fact, I can even think, "It's more comfortable to wear."
──What about the material?
Kinami:
It stretches a lot, and the texture is also pleasant. It dries quickly even when I sweat, so I think I can use it without any problems even in the summer Koshien. In fact, there was a lot of humidity at the Okinawa camp, but I felt zero discomfort even without changing during the game.
"How you hit it" not "that you hit it": a style that focuses on the process, not the outcome
──I heard there was also a change in your approach to batting.
Kina Players:
That's right. Starting in the off-season, I began to emphasize "how I achieved the result" rather than just the "result" itself.
For example, even with a ground out, I'm now focusing on the content, asking myself things like, "Did I go for the hit with proper conviction?" or "Was my swing shape close to ideal?"
──Does that way of thinking also apply to your training?
Kina Players:
It applies a lot. It's not just about lifting heavy weights or running long distances; it's meaningless if I don't clearly understand "why I'm doing it."
So, in every training session, I'm constantly aware of my form and feeling, thinking, "Is this working here?" or "Is this out of alignment?" as I do it. Choosing apparel that doesn't interfere with that is also incredibly important.
"I want to surpass last year's self." Kina's "wall" and what lies ahead
──Please tell us about your aspirations for this season.
Kino Player:
The main thing is to "surpass myself from last year." To do that, I need to think, act, and get results. That's all there is to it. No matter how much I prepare, if I don't get results in the end, it's meaningless. That's why I want to believe in what I've done in the offseason and give it my all.
