ULTIMUS - How to use a wooden baseball bat

①Pay attention to the direction of the grain of the wooden bat!

When using a wooden bat, be sure to pay attention to the grain of the wood.
Wooden bats have straight grain and cross grain, and the straight grain side is stronger, so be sure to hit with the straight grain side.

② Differences in wood grain when looking at actual bats

Check out the difference in wood grain on an actual bat!
In accordance with NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) regulations, the logo on ULTIMUS bats is printed with the straight grain on the marking side and the cross grain on the side.

What about painted bats?

Since the grain of the wood is not visible on a painted bat, remember that the side with the mark and the side directly behind it are the straight-grain side, and both sides of the mark are the flat-grain side.

By the way, what is ULTIMUS?

ULTIMUS means "ultimate (Latin)" and we want players who are serious about baseball to choose the ultimate equipment to use in games. We chose this name with the hope that it will be loved by everyone around the world as the ultimate bat that produces results in games!

The design logo was inspired by the image of an arrow piercing the center of your heart, and we hope that it will become an irreplaceable presence for many batters.

With the BFJ mark, it can be used in official matches for university students and above.

In college baseball, only bats approved by the All Japan Bat Manufacturers Association, known as the BFJ mark, can be used in games.

When players graduate from high school and will be using wooden bats, they need to check whether the bat they are choosing has the BFJ mark.

About ULTIMUS's Commitment

What kind of attention to detail is put into making ULTIMUS bats?

I would like to introduce to you the attention to detail that goes into manufacturing ULTIMUS!

Commitment 1: Uses carefully selected "North American maple wood"

First of all, the bat is made from carefully selected materials.

When discussing the quality of a wooden bat, it is essential to consider how good it is as a bat material.

The wood used in ULTIMUS is maple, which is said to be the wood used by approximately 80% of professional baseball players today.

*Maple wood is made from maple trees and is characterized by its relatively hard and durable material.

North American maple, a famous tree in cold regions

Another point to note is that the maple used is from North America.

Maple wood, which grows in the cold regions of North America, takes a long time to develop, and its dense grain is its greatest feature.

It is said that the denser the grain of a wooden bat, the more resilient it is and the further the ball flies, and bats with dense grain are characterized by a dry, high-pitched sound when hit.

Particularity 2: Dry feel

Trees that grow in cold regions have the habit of not taking in much water in their trunks to prevent freezing.
North American maple wood grown with this habit is hard and has an appealing dry feel when struck.

Another feature is that it does not easily accumulate moisture. When a wooden bat absorbs moisture, not only does it become heavy, but it also loses its resilience.
One of the strengths of ULTIMUS is that it maintains a dry feel and weight even in Japan's humid climate.

Particularity 3: Finely honed and sophisticated body

The bat shape was finalized after much trial and error, incorporating a lot of feedback from ground level.

The slim body line allows the weight of the head to feel comfortable, and the grip shape gives you a sense of security and ease of holding, bringing you confidence and courage in tense, pressure-filled situations.

After repeated dialogue with players and careful consideration, we have created an "artisanal club" that promises to help you achieve more accurate shots.

Particularity 4: Semi-top balance design for easy swing

To produce long hits, you need a centrifugal swing that makes use of the weight of the head.
ULTIMUS bats feature a semi-top balance, allowing for sharp swings that make the most of the head's weight.
In addition, compared to a normal top-balanced bat, the center of gravity is slightly closer to the grip, making it a well-balanced bat with excellent maneuverability.

Particular attention 5: Grip shape that emphasizes ease of holding

Unlike metal bats, wooden bats have different grip shapes for each model.
The grip is designed to be slim and easy to hold, so that even players who are holding a wooden bat for the first time can quickly get used to it. It also has a high relaxation effect, allowing players to approach the bat with confidence.

Reasons why it is recommended for junior and senior high school students

The ULTIMUS bat is a bat that we would like middle and high school players to use as well.
In Japanese amateur baseball, metal bats are used in games from elementary school to high school, and when they move on to the next stage, many players have trouble adapting to wooden bats.

The feel of metal bats and wooden bats is completely different just because of the materials used, so if you get used to wooden bats from an early age, you will be able to switch seamlessly and master inside-out hitting that takes advantage of the unique flexibility of wooden bats, allowing you to acquire higher levels of technique than if you were to practice with a metal bat.

In fact, wooden maple bats are used in regular practice sessions at top schools across the country.
