At Amazing, our baseball academies, YouTube broadcasts, and product development all start with improving swing speed.

This is because unless you can increase your swing speed, you won't be able to compete against a pitcher.

When you first start playing baseball, many people will tell you what to do, but the most important thing to do is to learn how to swing the bat powerfully and quickly.

Being able to swing the bat is where it all begins. There are many batting theories, but if you don't have a solid foundation to learn the techniques, it will be difficult to reap the benefits of the techniques.

First of all, you need to be able to swing faster. Today, I will tell you how to make your swing faster.

Practice to increase swing speed ① Beginner

First, let's start with the beginner's drill.

What to prepare

  • Heavy bat
  • Normal bat

These are the two. A heavy bat is a bat that is about 100g heavier than the bat you normally use for games. Once you have these two bats, you can start swinging.

First, take a heavy bat and swing it 10 times on your favorite course.

All you need to be aware of at this time is your swing to hit a home run. Home runs are not scored by just swinging with all your might. It's the most difficult thing to do.

It is important for you to make a perfect swing, so make sure you swing with a full swing on every ball.

Next, switch to a normal weight bat and swing it. Again, swing it 10 times, if possible, along the same path as the previous swing.

When you do this, you will feel the bat feel lighter than usual and the bat head moving on its own.
(If you feel that your sense is weak, we recommend that you increase the weight of the heavy bat or swing a heavy bat and then immediately switch to a regular sized bat.)

This running sensation is important.

Let your muscles memorize the sensation of the bat moving quickly and the actual movement.

This will help your body learn to swing faster.

By repeating this process, your swing speed will increase.

Doing this every day will definitely increase your swing speed.

Practice to increase swing speed ② Intermediate

This time it's the intermediate level.

Last time, I told you about an exercise to increase your swing speed by taking advantage of the difference in sensation caused by the weight difference between a heavy bat and a normal bat.

This time it's an enhanced version.

What to prepare

  • A light bat (such as a plastic bat)
  • Normal bat

These are the two.

First, pick up a light bat and swing it.

Things to keep in mind when swinging a light bat:
Even though it is light, make sure you don't just swing with your hands.

I don't think many people have ever taken a full swing with a plastic bat, but using your whole body to make a full swing can be quite tiring.

Also, since you don't feel like you're being swung by the weight of the bat, it stimulates muscles all over your body.

The thing to remember here is to swing quickly, not hard.

The goal is to get the fast swing movement into your body.

Just make sure to be bold and fast.

Then switch to a regular weight bat and practice.

The important thing is to alternate your swing. By doing so, you can use the sensation you get when using a different tool to your advantage when you switch to a regular bat.

Practice to increase swing speed③Advanced

The last one is the advanced level.

Even though it's an advanced version, it's still very easy, so please give it a try!

I think you can master the movements in just 15 minutes.

Things to prepare

  • HEAD RUN BAT

In this drill we will use the HEAD RUN BAT.

If you don't know what HEAD RUN BAT is, please read this article.

[Practice method] 1. Learn the feeling of the head dropping with a one-handed swing

First, hold the headlamps in one hand (your back hand) and swing it slowly!

The point is

  • ① Drop the head firmly and rotate it back and forth with the grip.
  • ②Swing straight to the side so that it is parallel to the ground.

If you watch the video, you can see the head fall behind the head and then down to about waist height.

From there, use your wrists and elbows to send the head out, making sure to swing parallel to the ground.

The trick is to relax your body! You can't make this swing if your wrists are tense and stiff.

[Practice method] 2. Learn the feeling of the head dropping with both hands

Once you get used to using one hand, make a firm grip on the top and swing with both hands!

The point is

  • ① Drop the head firmly and rotate it back and forth with the grip.
  • ②Swing straight to the side so that it is parallel to the ground.

It's basically the same as the one-handed movement in ①.
Even when your lead hand touches the ground, remember to relax and swing while feeling the weight of the head.

[How to practice] 3. Place the bat on your head and then swing!

Finally, place the bat behind your head and swing!

The point is

  • 1) Drop your head for a moment.
  • ② Be aware of relaxing your entire body.

Once you get this far, it's time for the final touches!
The trick is to drop the head behind your head for just a moment as you start swinging.

Relax your body and then suddenly exert force to create a powerful swing!

Now that you've gotten this far, switch to your regular bat and, while keeping in mind the sensations you've acquired in practice, incorporate them into your own swing by going through the following order: practice swings → tee shots → free shots!

【Note】

After changing your swing, you may feel uncomfortable or not be able to hit the ball properly because your swing is different from usual.
Until it becomes ingrained in your body, you will feel some discomfort and not see results, but this is part of growth, so be patient and keep going.

If you practice swinging a bat with this mindset, you will naturally be able to use the weight of the head to bat using centrifugal force, resulting in the ideal swing with fast and strong head speed . How to improve your batting form

Key Points

  • Use your wrists to accelerate your bat swing
  • Swing in a circular motion

What you should be especially conscious of is the bending of the wrist . If you look at a series of photos of the batting form of professional baseball players, you will see that the wrist bends back, as shown in the image. This movement is seen in many top batters and can be said to be the mark of a strong hitter . If you can master this movement , the head will naturally run and you will acquire a strong and fast swing .
