[Low-rebound bats] When will they be introduced in junior high school baseball?
Share
Good evening!
This is Par-nii, an amazing baseball partner.
This time we will talk about introducing memory foam bats.
It has been decided that new standard memory foam bats will be used in high school baseball starting in the spring of 2024, but many people are probably wondering, "When will junior high school students start using them?"
This time I will write about the information that has been decided as of now (May 2023).

Will low-rebound bats be introduced in junior high school baseball?

Starting in the spring of 2024, the low-rebound bat rule will be implemented in high school baseball, and all bats used in games will have to be low-rebound bats made to the new standards. Many people are asking, "What will happen in junior high school baseball?"
At this time, no official decision has been made to introduce low-rebound bats in any junior high school baseball league.
However, since the league basically follows many of the rules of high school baseball, we may see the introduction of low-rebound bats in the near future.
In any case, once you reach high school, you'll be using bats that don't fly as well, so I recommend practicing with bamboo or wooden bats now to prepare for the low-rebound bats!

Trial introduction at Giants Cup

The Giants Cup, a tournament to determine the best junior high school baseball team in Japan, has announced that it will be trialing the use of low-rebound bats at the 17th tournament to be held in 2023.
The bats used in this tournament will be the "Introgue 00" bats manufactured by Mizuno, a sponsor of the Giants Cup.
By increasing the thickness of the metal in the hitting area, the Introgue 00 bat's restitution coefficient has been reduced to around 0.53 (the coefficient of restitution for bats currently in general use is around 0.56 to 0.57), making it the same standard as the low-rebound bats used in high school baseball.
The organizers will provide all 32 teams participating in the tournament with an "Introgue 00" bat , and they will be limited to using only these bats during the tournament.

What did you think?
At present, no decisions have been made regarding the introduction of the system in any junior high school baseball leagues, but it will undoubtedly be introduced in stages in the near future, with a trial run being conducted at the Giants Cup to be held this year.
Another reason why they have not been introduced yet may be that the development of memory foam bats for junior high school students has not yet progressed sufficiently.
In any case, once you become a high school student you will definitely be using a low-rebound bat, so it is important to start practicing now with a bat that doesn't fly.
